St. Edmond opens Class 1A postseason play at the net

The St. Edmond volleyball team will open Class 1A postseason play tonight when they host Paton-Churdan.

Action is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. inside the Gael gym.

After sitting out two weeks because of being exposed to a positive COVID-19 case, the Gaels have had a busy stretch since coming back.

The Gaels (4-9) had matches against second-ranked C-C/D and 11th-ranked Humboldt. They just completed three matches in the Algona Invitational this weekend.d

Entering tonight’s match senior Leah Neverman leads the Gaels in kills with 73. Classmate Kasey Kruthoff (59), junior Aleah Anderson (50) and junior Alyxis Mericle (30) are the other leaders.

Kruthoff has 33 blocks and junior Mya McClain is the digs leader with 113. Anderson (67), Kruthoff (66), and junior Kierstin Clark (61) also pace the Gaels.

At the service line Clark is 124-for-141, McClain is 131-for-135 and Neverman is 101-for-118. Clark has 30 aces and McClain has 20.

The Rockets (9-9) enter the postseason after winning a match against Glidden-Ralston in their conference tournament. Paton-Churdan has won six of their last nine matches.

Senior Danielle Hoyle leads the Rockets with 238 kills as well as being the blocks leader (55) and digs leader (223).

Classmate Karissa Stpehenson has 216 digs, while senior Tessa Steimel (170), and junior Carmyn Paup (163) also lead the Rockets.
