South Central Calhoun rallies past South Hamilton
JEWELL — When seventh-ranked South Central Calhoun needed a big play here Friday night, they looked to seniors Brennan Holder and Cole Corey.
Holder showed his power and speed with a 47-yard touchdown to midway through the fourth that gave the Titans a 14-8 lead as they would go on to defeat No. 4 South Hamilton and advance to the quarterfinals again, 20-8.
Corey recovered a fumble on the ensuing drive that helped set Holder up for 1-yard TD plunge on fourth-down.
Last week, Holder also scored the game-winning points in a playoff win.
The South Central Calhoun (8-1 overall) defense shut the vaunted Hawk run game down in the second half. They also ended any hopes of a South Hamilton comeback with a late interception to seal the victory.
Trevor Thompson gave the Hawks an early lead with a fourth-down touchdown run of his own along with the two-point conversion.
Corey and Joshua Dietrich connected for the first SCC score, as the Titans lined up in an off-balanced formation and Dietrich made a perfectly-timed play on the ball.
This sets up a rematch between South Central Calhoun and Southeast Valley in the quarterfinals next Friday night. The Jaguars handed the Titans their only loss to date, 32-23 back in late September.
