Pair of double winners for FDSH swimmers

The Fort Dodge swim team had a pair of individual double winners and claimed five events overall in a dual with arch-rival Mason City here Tuesday night.

Sophomore Eileen Fierke and senior Grace Hartley both won two individual events in the Dodger pool, with senior Rylie Steinkamp also placing first.

The Mohawks prevailed in the meet, 104-76.

Fierke was the first finisher in the 200 freestyle in 2:00.63, and won the 100 freestyle in 57.51, which was six seconds ahead of the runner-up.

Hartley placed first in both the 200 individual medley (2:16.77) and 100 breaststroke (1:11.25).

Steinkamp claimed the 50 freestyle race in 26.67, and was the runner-up in the 100 butterfly for Fort Dodge.

Freshman Raegan Wooldridge added two second-place efforts: in the 500 freestyle, and behind Hartley in the 100 breaststroke.

Fort Dodge’s 200 medley, 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays all took second. The 200 medley consisted of Fierke, Wooldridge, Steinkamp and Hartley, as they clocked a time of 1:59.20 to place just behind Mason City.

Hartley, Steinkamp, Claire Kienzle and Fierke swam the 200 freestyle relay in 1:46.83, just getting edged out by the Mohawks, who went 1:46.34.

Makenna Kammerer, Woolridge, Riley Binder and Kienzle completed the final event of the night in 4:22.50.

Earning wins in junior varsity races for the Dodgers were Lillian Shin (200 freestyle), Isabelle Berger (200 individual medley), Maddie Pulis (100 freestyle) and Maria Elizondo (100 breaststroke).

Fort Dodge returns to the pool on Thursday when they travel to Spencer for a double-dual also involving Carroll. Swimming begins at 6:30 p.m.
