MNW’s Moline earns third league title

POCAHONTAS — For the third consecutive season, Maddie Moline was crowned the winner of the Twin Lakes Conference race.

Moline, a Manson Northwest Webster senior, was joined by her teammates Preslie Oswald and Paige Condon on the awards stand as the underclassmen finished second and third to give the Cougars the overall team title.

Manson Northwest Webster placed all five counting runners inside of the Top-25, finishing with just 45 team points. Alta-Aurelia was a distant second followed by Sioux Central, South Central Calhoun, Emmetsburg, Pocahontas Area, West Bend-Mallard and Southeast Valley here this past Saturday at the Pocahontas Golf Club.

For Moline, it was race victory No. 15 in her storied career.

“Conference is always a big meet for us,” Moline said. “Everyone was really excited to go out and compete. We knew we wanted to defend our title and we did just that.

“Preslie, Paige and I talked about going 1-2-3, and it was amazing to actually execute that.”

Moline distanced herself from the field, finishing in 20:05. Oswald, a sophomore, posted a time of 20:57 with Condon, a junior, completing the course in 21:19.

It was quite an eventful meet for the Moline family, as her cousin, Lane, placed second in the boys race.

“It was so cool to see Lane get second and Quinn and Thade (Lachelt) finish where they did,” Moline said. “Everyone ran great races and we are excited to ride this momentum into districts.”

West Bend-Mallard’s Julia Fehr was fourth overall with Rachel Fehr placing sixth. East Sac County’s Emma Schroeder finished fifth and Emmetsburg’s Izzy Householder was seventh.

For South Central Calhoun, Alexia Nelson finished 12th and Pocahontas Area’s Carly Janssen was 13th.
