The Fort Dodge girls swim team welcomed in the rest of the CIML Iowa Conference here Thursday night.

Eileen Fierke and Grace Hartley combined for three first place finishes as the Dodgers were fifth overall. Ames won the team title over Mason City, racking up 386 points.

Fierke was a double-winner, placing first in the 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. Hartley claimed the 200 individual medley and also finished fourth in the 100 breaststroke.

“It was a great night for Eileen,” FDSH head coach Ashley Beaumont said. “She really gained a lot of confidence going into regionals.”

Rylie Steinkamp picked up a pair of Top-5 finishes. She was third in the 50 free and fifth in the 100 butterfly.

“Really, it was more about our junior varsity swimmers and giving them a chance to finish out their season,” Beaumont said. “Conference was weird with COVID so we wanted to make sure all of the junior varsity got a chance to compete.

“Everybody really had a great night and dropped time once again.”

Fierke clocked a time of 2:00.95 to best Ames’ Loretta Ostermeier in the 200 free. She started strong, registering an opening 50 in 27.83 and would hold the lead throughout.

In the 100 breaststroke, Fierke again started strong with an open 50 timed at 32.59. She was nearly two seconds ahead of Mason City’s Aspen Cole in the race.

Hartley followed up Fierke’s first win with her top finish in the 200 I.M. She had an opening swim in 30.02 and finished just ahead of Cole with a time of 2:16.62.

For the 100 breaststroke, Hartley had a time of 1:11.92.

Steinkamp went 26.6 in the 50 free, with the winner, Lesli Waltermire of Marshalltown, finishing in 25.86. She had a time of 1:03.79 in the 100 butterfly.

Claire Kienzle was seventh in the 100 free, Rachel Moody earned eighth in the 200 I.M, Becca Kenville was eighth in the 50 free and Jalen Adams was 10th in the 200 free.

The Dodgers return to the pool next on Saturday, Nov. 7 when they host a regional meet. Action begins at noon.
