Dodgers top Bobcats

MARSHALLTOWN — The Fort Dodge girls swim team continued to build momentum with a CIML Iowa Conference victory over Marshalltown here on Tuesday.

The Dodgers took all but two events and defeated the Bobcats, 103-80.

“We really had a strong overall performance,” FDSH head coach Ashley Beaumont said. “It’s nice to build some momentum heading into the conference meet and the postseason. We’re heading in the right direction, and it’s always nice to pick up another dual win.”

Senior Grace Hartley and sophomore Eileen Fierke had big efforts again for the Dodgers, taking two individual titles each and helping the team take the 400 freestyle relay in 3:59.42 with Makenna Kammerer and Claire Kienzle.

Hartley earned first in the 200 individual medley (2:18.26) and the 500 freestyle (5:34.08). Fierke grabbed golds in the 100 freestyle (58.48) and the 200 freestyle (2:03.73).

Fierke also teamed with Raegan Wooldridge, Rylie Steinkamp and Riley Binder to capture the 200 medley relay (2:02.54).

Steinkamp was also a double winner, grabbing the 50 freestyle (27.18) and 100 butterfly (1:04.51). Wooldridge was victorious in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.78).

“Grace, Eileen, Rylie and Raegan did an outstanding job,” Beaumont said. “It was great to have three double winners individually, of course, and Raegan’s (victory) was huge. But really, everyone performed well and built some confidence with some big meets coming up.”

Fort Dodge, which now has five dual-meet victories this season, will host the CIML Iowa Conference meet next Thursday in the Dodger pool.
