Fierke, Hartley victorious

ANKENY — The Fort Dodge swim team earned two individual victories against fifth-ranked Ankeny on Tuesday.

Sophomore Eileen Fierke and senior Grace Hartley picked up golds for the Dodgers.

Fierke won the 200 freestyle (1:59.62) by six-one-hundredths of a second over Ankeny’s Madison Carleton.

Hartley out-touched Ankeny’s Caroline Walker at the wall in the 100 butterfly, prevailing by one-one-hundredths of a second (1:04.14).

Hartley was also second in the 50 freestyle (26.61) to Alexis Henning.

“With getting ready for our own invite (this week), we wanted to swim in some different events and give the girls a chance to relax,” said FDSH head coach Ashley Beaumont. “Eileen and Grace had awesome races. It was nice to see them go up against some of the state’s best.”

The Dodgers are back in action on Saturday when they host the Gary Winkler Invitational. The meet begins at noon.
