Lynx rack up 484 yards of offense

WEBSTER CITY — The Webster City defense pitched a second consecutive shutout while the offense relied on a powerful run game to top Carroll here Friday night, 55-0.

The Lynx racked up 484 yards of total offense, all of which came on the ground.

Trey Mathis led the way with 174 yards and three scores, while Chase Rattenborg ran for 130 yards and found the end zone twice.

CJ Hisler added 66 yards and a TD, freshman Jaxon Cherry had 63 yards and a score, and Kyzer Stanley also picked up a touchdown.

Webster City’s defense, which silenced Gilbert in Week 1, forced six fumbles.

The Lynx, will play their third straight home game as they host Ballard next Friday in Webster City.

Kruse leads Jags past IKM

GOWRIE — Quarterback Kolson Kruse had another strong outing for Southeast Valley as the Jaguars earned a 32-22 victory over IKM-Manning on Friday night.

The Jaguar (2-0 overall) threw two touchdown passes and rushed for one. Kruse connected with Tre Fisher for a score and also hit Colton Brant.

The Jaguar junior also burst through the defense for a 60-yard touchdown run. He finished the night with 73 yards on 11 carries. He was 8-for-13 for 98 yards.

Hunter Sorenson rushed for 56 yards and scored, giving him three touchdowns on the season.

Career night for Matson

HUMBOLDT — Caden Matson accounted for almost 300 yards and all four touchdowns as Humboldt topped Storm Lake here Friday night, 28-7.

Matson completed 12 of 15 passes for 202 yards with three scores, adding another 70 yards rushing and a touchdown for the Wildcats (2-0).

Gabe Gidel had five catches for 99 yards while the Humboldt defense forced three turnovers.

Humboldt will host Boone next week before hosting Webster City and then traveling to Ballard.

Garrigan loses to MC Newman

ALGONA — Bishop Garrigan dropped a 28-13 contest to Mason City Newman on Friday night.

The Golden Bears (0-2 overall) got on the board right away as Isiah Plathe returned the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown.

Kellen Murphy rushed for 149 yards on the night and a touchdown. Murphy led the defense with eight tackles. Sean Davis had seven tackles and a sack.

Dunlap earns 100th career win

EMMETSBURG — Mike Dunlap earned his 100th career coaching win as Emmetsburg downed Algona here Friday night, 34-27.

The E-Hawks rallied, scoring 14 points in the fourth quarter.

Cole Shirk ran for 137 yards and scored a touchdown, as Ben Dunlap was 4-for-5 passing for 74 yards with a score. Colby Weir found the end zone three times, adding 52 yards rushing and a two-point conversion.

Ben Dunlap completed 4 of 5 passes for 74 yards including a 5-yard TD to Matthew Wirtz. Lex Kassel had 64 yards receiving.

Dunlap also recorded six tackles and recovered a fumble on defense for Emmetsburg.

Algona had a chance to tie or win it, but the Bulldogs were stopped a yard short of the end zone in the final minute. Tyler Manske threw four touchdown passes, including three to Treyvon Smith.
