County golf tourney time has arrived
Plenty of talent in all four fields this weekend for the 40th annual event

A number of former champions will be on the tee this weekend trying to recapture the moment at the 40th annual Fort Dodge Ford Lincoln Toyota Webster County golf tournament, presented by The Messenger.
Austin Morrow (men’s open division), Randy Stults (men’s senior) and Roxanne Kuhlman (women’s senior) are back to defend their titles. Morrow posted a seven-stroke victory over fellow ex-champ Eddie Doyle, who will also be in this year’s field. Stults rallied to repeat in 2019 when he defeated Terry Miller — a six-time senior victor himself — in a playoff.
In addition to Morrow and Stults, Lucas Peed, Ryan Reeder, Phil Ruth, Jim Dalton, Doyle, and Miller have all earned golden trophies in the past. Annual contenders Cole Jaeschke, Cody Jaeschke and Kole Petersen also expect to be in the mix; Petersen was third a year ago, while Cody Jaeschke placed fifth.
Lance Utley, David Osterberg and Rick Jones rounded out the Top-5 in the senior group last summer, and all three are entered to play. Gowrie’s Tom Schill is a former Fort Dodge Amateur senior champ and regular contender on the Iowa amateur circuit.
In the women’s open bracket, seven-time champ Kelsey Felch and 2018 winner Delaney Conrad are the frontrunners heading into the weekend. The senior division should be interesting, with Kuhlman — the two-time defending titleist who has five golds on the senior side alone to her credit — being pushed by past winners Kathy Fortune and Peg Christensen.
Both men’s and women’s tee times start at 8 a.m. on Saturday. The men start at the Fort Dodge Country Club, and will finish up at Lakeside on Sunday. The women are reversed.
A championship nine will draw the top men’s contenders to Lakeside at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Sunday evening.
Over 100 participants are registered to compete.
There will be a closest to the pin contest on all par-3s at both courses on Saturday, sponsored by Faiferlick Martial Arts and Next Edge Performance. There will be four men’s and four women’s winners on the par-3s at both courses, with $100 going to each.
Hot and humid conditions are expected all weekend long, with temperatures hovering around 90 degrees both days.
The FDCC is a par-71 layout. Lakeside is a par-72.
