Mustangs run for eight TDs

NEWELL –Newell-Fonda made it a habit of reaching the end zone on Friday night as they scored eight touchdowns in a 54-7 victory over Harris Lake-Park.

Mason Dicks had three touchdowns in the Mustang (1-0 overall) victory. Dicks rushed for 78 yards and scored from four and 53 yards. He also returned an interception for a 16-yard touchdown.

Gabe Sievers had scores from five and 13 yards. Sievers connected for a 42-yard score with Trey Jungers. Sievers finished 8-fr-16 for 137 yards.

Jungers had six catches for 109 yards.

Hunter Christiansen had a 54-yard touchdown jaunt, while Will Pitstick had a three-yard score.

Dicks and Ryan Greenfield had six tackles each. Dicks and Caden Meyer had interceptions.

Muench scores 4 times

GOWRIE — Southeast Valley cruised to a 54-0 victory over Clarke on Friday night.

Lathe Muench rushed for 100 yards and four touchdowns in the Jaguars (1-0 overall) shutout victory.

Hunter Sorenson rushed for 15 yards and scored twice.

Kolson Kruz had a tocudown and threw for 139 yards. Carl Berglund had 53 yards receiving.

The Jaguars will play their home opener next week as they host IKM-Manning as part of a two-game homestand in Gowrie.

Defense leads Webster City

WEBSTER CITY — Webster City rushed for 218 yards as they picked up a 21-7 victory over Spencer on Friday night.

C.J. Hisler scored twice for the Lynx (1-0 overall). Hisler finished the night 41 yards on 13 carries. He scored on runs of six and eight.

Quarterback Tyler Olson hit Chase Rattenborg from 32 yards out for Webster City’s first score.

Rattenborg finished with 89 yards rushing on 19 carries. Trey Mathis had 20 totes for 88 yards.

The Webster City defense held Spencer to 69 yards on the night. Mathis had 8.5 tackles and the Lynx had six tackles for loss.

Humboldt tops Algona

ALGONA — The Humboldt football team opened their season with a 33-20 victory over North Central Conference rival Algona Friday night.

Caden Matson accounted for four touchdowns, including three on the ground. He had over 150 yards passing and 120 yards rushing to lead the Wildcats.

Gabe Gidel and Tanner McKimmey each had interceptions on defense, as the Humboldt unit recorded four sacks.

This was the first win for the Wildcats over Algona since 2016. Humboldt is 7-4 against the Bulldogs since 2010.

Shirk leads E-Hawks

EMMETSBURG — Cole Shirk ran for 183 yards and scored two touchdowns as Emmetsburg earned a 35-0 victory over Bishop Garrigan here Friday night.

The E-Hawks have won back-to-back games in the series with the Golden Bears, adding to a 13-8 triumph a season ago.

Colby Weir ran for 84 yards and scored two touchdowns with Lane Auten adding a score.

Matthew Wirtz led the defense with 5.5 tackles including one for loss. Ben Dunlap also picked off a pass.
