All Andi Adams wanted out of her top-ranked (Class 5A) ballclub on Thursday night was to learn the value of the game and how to respect it.

The Dodgers (18-3 overall) picked up a 12-0, three-inning victory over Des Moines North (0-15). The Polar Bears have struggled, but their program numbers are up after winning just one total game in the last six seasons.

“They (Des Moines North) are out there trying,” Adams said. “They have a new coaching staff, and they’re doing their best to get a program built up again.”

Adams, who teaches her group to be humble and hungry, also wanted to show them that respect is also a key part of the game.

“You have to treat every time out there with a sense of urgency and decency,” Adams said. “There was no reason for us to run up the score. We scored nine in the first, but we continued to be disciplined and didn’t push it beyond that.

“There coach said we were one of the more respectful teams they have played, which was good to hear.”

With a 12-0 lead, Dodger baserunners started leaving the base early to get an out and finish the third inning with as little damage as possible.

Senior Loghen Schnetzer hit her FDSH-best 34th home run with a three-run blast in the first inning. She finished the contest 2-for-2 with four RBI and two runs.

Sophomore Malia Lowrey was also 2-for-2 with four RBI. Her twin sister Martyne Lowrey had a hit, run and drove in a pair.

Chloe Wertz had two hits and drove in run. Tristin Doster had two hits and a run.

Tory Bennett, and Sophia Klinger also contributed hits.

Jalen Adams (12-1) picked up the win in a short two innings of work. She allowed no hits, struck out four and walked zero.

At the plate Adams had a triple and scored twice. Haley Wills pitched the final frame, giving up no hits and fanning one.

The Dodgers are back in action on Monday as they travel to Des Moines Hoover. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. of the doubleheader.
