Algona tips Gaels late

ALGONA — St. Edmond dropped a 5-3 decision to Algona here on Monday.

The ninth-ranked (Class 3A) Bulldogs plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to prevail and stay unbeaten on the season. The Gaels had tied the game in the top half of the frame.

“We’re getting better — we just have to finish,” SEHS head coach Bill Shirbroun said. “That’s all a part of the maturation process.

“We keep grinding. We haven’t given up.”

Senior pitcher Kameryn Etherington went the distance and struck out 10 for Algona (4-0 overall). Freshman Lillian Etherington had two hits and two runs scored. Freshman Lily Elsbecker drove in a run.

Jocy Timmerman delivered a two-run double for St. Edmond. Grace Harvey contributed an RBI single.

The Gaels return to action on Tuesday at Manson Northwest Webster.
