Two more wins for No. 17 Tritons

PARSONS, Kan. — The 17th-ranked Iowa Central softball team stretched their early-season win streak to six with a sweep of Labette here Saturday.

Scores were 10-3 and 15-5 in favor of the Tritons (8-3 overall).

In the opener, Fort Dodge Senior High grads and former all-staters Maggie Harvey and Bre Tjebben each hit a homer, along with Parker Mathews. Tjebben and Mathews finished with three RBI each, while Harvey had two.

Abbie Thilges had two runs and stole two bases in support of Kayla Wookey, as she earned the win with three strikeouts inside the circle. Mathews and Tjebben also each scored twice.

“It’s been two weeks off between games and they jumped out on us early,” ICCC head coach Rick Sandquist said. “But our girls bounced back. They were excited to play and really energetic.”

Mackenzie Rosenboom provided the offense in the nightcap, going 3-for-4 with two homers, six RBI and two runs scored. Harvey, Tjebben and Sophie Cave all went deep as well.

Tjebben had three hits, scores twice and drove in two, Harvey had two hits and scored twice, and Cave had two hits, two RBI and two runs.

“We did a lot of good things,” Sandquist said. “We ran the bases well, hit the ball well, pitched well and got out of jams. I’m really proud of how they played.”

Iowa Central returns to action on Sunday at Ottawa JV.
