Silver for Borgman on the lanes

BUFFALO — The Iowa Central bowling team put together a strong Friday at the NJCAA Championships, claiming a silver and positioning themselves for another team gold.

Nickolas Borgman placed second overall in men’s singles, while the women’s team leads after two days of action. The Triton men are third behind Rock Valley and Highland.

The event concludes with three more team games and nine Baker’s games for both the men and women.

Toi Hansen and Madison Ross have led the way for the Tritons. Hansen had a 1655 total to place fourth in all events with Ross fifth at 1614.

“The women have been on a great run over the past few tournaments and are really coming together as a team,” ICCC head coach Gregg Haden said. “One unit peaking at the right time.

“They are really feeling good about themselves, which will carry them to a national championship.”

Hansen and Baili Girkin were seventh in doubles while Miranda Pelant and Allison Christenson were ninth.

Iowa Central has a team total of 7946 with Rock Valley second at 7773 and Barton third with 7717.

Borgman had game scores of 216, 234 and 199 for a 629 series to hold off Jacob Sommer of Rock Valley by two pins. Corning’s Derek Lisi was the winner with a 666.

“Nickolas is our most consistent player and it has really paid off for him,” Haden said. “He is a great team player and a leader for our team. He has worked very hard all year and deserves this.”

Raymond Wiegand was sixth and Kamrin Chizek was 16th with Ryan Dudley placing 20th overall in singles. Wiegand was third in all events and Chizek 12th.

In doubles, Kaleb Ross and Noah Wangen placed seventh.
