MORGANTOWN, W.V. — Lehr Thorson had herself quite a Big 12 Championship for the Iowa State swimming and diving team.

Thorson, a former standout for Fort Dodge Senior High, captured a silver and a bronze medal over the final two nights of the event.

On Friday, Thorson clocked a time of 1:01.02 to set a new personal-best in the 100 breaststroke finals, finishing second overall and recording a NCAA B cut time. It was the second time she hit the cutoff during the meet.

Thorson’s performance was also just .56 seconds off the school record for the event, and made her the first Cyclone to post an NCAA B cut since the 2017-18 season.

During the final races Saturday, Thorson turned in a third-place showing in the 200 breaststroke, finishing in 2:14.41. That time places her fourth in school history.

Thorson has earned all-Big 12 honors each of her three seasons in the pool at Iowa State.

The Cyclones finished fourth overall, surging past West Virginia on the final day. Texas was crowned league champions with Kansas and TCU rounding out the Top-3.

Iowa State will compete in a “Last Chance Meet” back here on Sunday with the NCAA Championships scheduled for March 18-21 in Athens, Ga.
