11th-rated Kirkwood defeats Triton men

CEDAR RAPIDS — The Iowa Central men ended the regular season with an 87-64 loss to No. 11 Kirkwood here Saturday.

The Eagles (23-5 overall, 12-2 in ICCAC) won for the fifth consecutive time and completed a season sweep over the Tritons (10-19, 3-11). They will head into the Region XI Tournament alongside Iowa Central beginning Tuesday night.

For the Tritons, Marquis Henry and Zack Foulks each scored 13 points, with Andrew Gibb chipping in 11. Jeremy Kambomba had nine rebounds.

Kirkwood jumped out to a 42-32 lead at the half as Seybian Sims had 11 points. Luke Appel, one of the top players in the conference, was held to one point in the first 20 minutes and 12 for the game.

Sims had 18 points to lead four players in double figures.

Iowa Central will head to Boone on Tuesday night to face fifth-ranked Des Moines Area (26-4, 12-2) at 7 p.m. The winner gets either Iowa Lakes or Ellsworth on Thursday.
