Dodger boys head to Ankeny

THE TIP: The Dodgers will meet Ankeny in a Class 4A substate semifinal. Action is set to tip tonight in Ankeny at 7 p.m.

PROBABLES: Fort Dodge (3-19 overall): Drake Callon, so., 3.3; Carson Peterson, so., 5.4; Tysen Kershaw, sr., 12.1; Brycen Bell, sr., 2.0; Dayson Clayton, jr., 8.7.

Ankeny (16-5): Jaxon Smith, sr., 14.6; Braxton Bayless, sr., 22.6; Jordan Kumm, sr., 9.7; Brecken Manus, jr., 4.7; Braden Simonsen, so., 2.7.

HONORING COACH WILLIAMS: The Dodgers will have a “WW” patch on their warmups when they face Ankeny. Assistant coach Willie Williams is currently hospitalized in Des Moines on the neuro-ICU floor after having emergency surgery on Wednesday.

SUBSTATE FINAL: The substate final contest will be on Tuesday in either Fort Dodge or a site to be determined. The winner of Fort Dodge and Ankeny will face the winner of Sioux City East and Ames. That game is being played tonight at Sioux City East.

LAST MEETING: The Dodgers and Hawks met in Fort Dodge’s third game of the season. The Hawks won 57-43. Jaxon Smith led Ankeny with 17 points, while Jordan Kumm had 15 and nine rebounds. Monterius Abrams-Altman led the Dodgers with 10 points. Tysen Kershaw had nine.

LAST TIME OUT: The Dodgers knocked off Sioux City West in a Class 4A postseason opener. Senior Tysen Kershaw led the way with 21 points and nine rebounds for the Dodgers. Junior Dayson Clayton added 19 points.

ABOUT ANKENY: The Hawks are coming off an 87-62 victory over Mason City. Braxton Bayless led the way with 21 points. Jaxon Smith 914), Ryan Crandall (12) and Brecken Manus (10) all reached double figures Ankeny has won two straight games and five of its last seven.
