BASKETBALL PREVIEW: Tritons vs. Ellsworth

THE TIP: Iowa Central will celebrate Sophomore Night with a doubleheader against ICCAC rival Ellsworth Wednesday night inside Hodges Fieldhouse. Action begins with the women’s contest at 5:30 p.m. and the men to follow.

WOMEN’S PROBABLES: Iowa Central (16-12 overall, 7-7 in ICCAC): Mardaeja Cross, soph., 9.7; Anni Cummings, fr., 6.9; Jordan Engbrecht, fr., 8.1; Aaliyah Hull, soph., 9.0; Isabell West, fr., 13.0.

SOPHOMORE NIGHT: The Tritons will honor sophomores Mardaeja Cross, Justice Crooks and Aaliyah Hull during the evening.

LAST TIME OUT: The Tritons scored a 64-62 victory over Des Moines Area, snapping a two-game losing skid. Aaliyah Hull had the winning bucket. The Panthers are coming off a 76-64 loss to the Clarke JV.

LAST MEETING: Iowa Central claimed a 71-40 victory in Iowa Falls over Ellsworth. The Tritons shot 51 percent from the field and 56 percent from the 3-point line as Jordan Engbrecht scored 18 and Mardaeja Cross added 14.

ABOUT THE PANTHERS: Ellsworth is averaging just 47 points per game, shooting 27 percent from the field and 24 percent from the 3-point line. Dating back to 2018, the Panthers have lost 62 consecutive games.

SOPHOMORE NIGHT: The Tritons will honor sophomores Jeremy Kambomba and Marquis Henry during the doubleheader.

LAST TIME OUT: Iowa Central is coming off a 100-69 setback to Des Moines Area, a game in which they made 10 3-pointers and shot 41 percent from the field. Ellsworth suffered a third consecutive loss, falling to Southwestern, 82-76.

LAST MEETING: In Iowa Falls late last month, Ellsworth picked up a 78-65 victory over the Tritons. The Panthers made 14 triples in the game.

ABOUT THE PANTHERS: Ellsworth averages almost 79 points per game on 45 percent shooting from the floor and 38 percent from the 3-point line.
