For only the second time this season, the St. Edmond wrestling team will be inside its home gym.

The Gaels host the St. Edmond Duals on Saturday.

Joining them will be the Fort Dodge junior varsity squad, Southeast Valley, AGWSR and Roland-Story. Action will begin at 10 a.m.

St. Edmond’s only home action this season was a triangular against Algona and Hampton-Dumont on Dec. 5.

“It’s good to be at home after the break,” said St. Edmond head coach Eugene Carlson. “We are expecting some positive energy and big crowd supporting our kids.

“Now we have to get some wins and putting things together.”

Junior Ryan Duckett, who is 7-2 in his career at the St. Edmond duals, finished 3-1 last season. His only loss was to Southeast Valley’s Coledon Bethel, was named the wrestler of the meet.

Duckett, the seventh-ranked wrestler at 113 pounds (The Predicament), is now 63-24 in his career and 12-1 on the season. He will miss this weekend’s action with an injury, though.

West Hancock won the tournament last year, finishing undefeated in four duals. The Jaguars were second at 3-1.

The Eagles enter the tournament ranked sixth in Class 1A with six ranked wrestlers. Ranked for West Hancock is Matthew Francis (No. 7 at 170), Cole Kelley (No. 6 at 182), Tate Hagen (No. 2 at 195), Tanner Hagen (No. 6 at 220) and Chandler Redenius (No. 2 at 285).

Trey Lashbrook is ranked ninth at 120 pounds for AGWSR.

On Friday night, the kids tournament was named after Vinnie Harvey, a St. Edmond graduate who passed away during the summer of 2019.

With the Gaels competing on Thursday night against Iowa Falls-Alden and Roland Story and the kids tournament on Friday, it will be an action-packed weekend for St. Edmond wrestling.

“With the Fort Dodge junior varsity coming, it’s going to be a packed house,” Carlson said. “We are expecting a large crowd this week. Southeast Valley and West Hancock will both bring really crowds, too.”
