The St. Edmond boys have consistently given Adolph Kochendorfer good effort this year.

On Thursday night that attitude paid off, as the Gaels posted their second win of the week by downing Manson Northwest Webster, 52-32.

After falling behind early, St. Edmond (3-7 overall) used a 31-15 run over the second and third quarters to pull ahead.

Drew Schaeffer scored 12 points, Connor Bocken added 10 and Hayden Mayer chipped in with eight to lead the Gaels, who also topped Eagle Grove this past Monday night.

“We continued to play hard and eventually, things started going our way,” Kochendorfer said. “We still turned the ball over too many times, but we didn’t let those mistakes bother us.”

For the Cougars (1-11), Austin Anliker had nine points with Carson Bower and Trinity Johnson each adding eight.

A quick 6-1 spurt in the second gave the Gaels a 12-7 lead, an advantage that would continue to grow over the rest of the game. Six different players scored in the second, and Bocken knocked down a pair of big 3-pointers in the third before adding a jumper at the buzzer.

“Connor really stepped up there big when we needed a shot,” Kochendorfer said. “We have some experienced kids, but they are still learning how to win. We’ve got to be strong with the basketball late, continue to get in the lane and good things will happen.”

St. Edmond was 18-for-23 from the free throw line, as Jed Tracy knocked down seven shots from the stripe.

Brock Stanek added eight rebounds for the Gaels, with Mayer grabbing five and both Tracy and Bocken four each.

Anliker added a team-high six boards for Manson NW, with Bower, Dayton Snell and Sean Peters each adding four.

Weather has already postponed a planned North Central Conference meeting with Iowa Falls-Alden scheduled for Friday night, meaning St. Edmond will next face Hampton-Dumont on the road Tuesday.

The Cougars were expected to play Emmetsburg, but will instead host Twin Lakes Conference leader Southeast Valley on Tuesday.
