17th annual bowling event in FD Saturday

Tourney sponsored locally by FD Ford, Calisesi Chiropractic

Ridgewood Lanes will host the 17th annual Fort Dodge Ford/Calisesi Chiropractic Open bowling tournament on Saturday.

The event, widely considered to be one of the top scratch competitions in the state, is one of seven tournaments on the Greater Iowa Bowling Association schedule for the 2019-2020 season.

The tournament will once again bring together 96 of the top bowlers from around the Midwest area. Bowlers from Kansas, Nebraska, Minnesota, South Dakota, Illinois and Iowa are entered and will compete for a top prize of $1,000.

The tournament is sponsored by Casey Johnson and Matt Johnson, owners of Fort Dodge Ford Toyota along with Dr. John Calisesi, owner of Calisesi Chiropractic Clinic.

The event started in 2004.

The tournament will feature a unique format. There will be two qualifying squads, 9:30 a.m. for half of the field and 2:30 p.m. for the other half.

Each entrant will bowl eight games, one game on every pair of lanes. Following both qualifying squads, the top 12 bowlers in the final standings will participate in a modified stepladder finals.

The first match would be between bowlers in positions 10, 11 and 12. They bowl one game each on the same pair of lanes and the top score moves onto the next position. The format continues until two bowlers are left standing, then they’ll compete.

The top 29 bowlers in the field will receive prize money and the total prize fund payout in 2019 was $5,265.

There will be several bowlers competing with outstanding resumes. Defending champion Matt Johnson of Fort Dodge will be bowling on the 9:30 a.m. squad.
