R. BERNADINE GENTRY

ROCKWELL CITY — R. Bernadine Gentry 101, passed away Thurs­day, December 26, 2019, at Sunny Knoll Care Centre, Rockwell City. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 31, at the United Methodist Church, Rockwell City, with Pastor Anita Bane officiating. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday at the Church until service time. Burial of casket will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Manson. Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City is serving the family.

Bernadine is survived by her daughter Janice Hartley of Laurens; son Dale (Lynne) Gentry of Rockwell City; grandsons, Damon (Shelly) Gentry of Ankeny, and Nathan (Emily) Gentry of Rockwell City; 4 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Dwaine; great-grandson Callen Gentry; son-in-law Warren Hartley; her parents, William and Lulu Mae (King) Miller; and brother Harold Miller.

Ruth Bernadine Miller Gentry was born September 14, 1918, in Sherman Township, Calhoun County, Iowa. She attended country schools and graduated from Manson High School. Bernadine received her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. On June 2, 1939, she was united in marriage to Dwaine G. Gentry. Bernadine worked various jobs in her life including teaching school, operating a dried floral arrangement business, working at USDA, and making draperies. The couple enjoyed wintering in Florida for over 40 years. Dwaine passed away in 2004. Bernadine was a member of the United Methodist Church, PEO, Calhoun Co. Historical Society, and a Girl Scout Leader.
