Gaels in action against Cowboys and Lions

CLARION — The St. Edmond wrestling team competed against perennial North Central Conference contenders Clarion-Goldfield/Dows and Clear Lake on Thursday night.

The Gaels lost to Clear Lake, 60-21, and fell to Clarion-Goldfield/Dows by a final of 72-9.

“Overall, Coach (Kaden) McClintock and I are pleased with our energy,” said SEHS head coach Eugene Carlson. “We’re an inexperienced team. We need to keep working on the simple things.”

Against the Lions, freshman Ronnie Orres (106) picked up a fall in 3:01 over Marcus Skidmore. Noah Carlson (152) earned a tight 7-6 decision over Anthony Aragon.

Ryan Duckett (113) and Tyler Rossmanith (160) picked up wins by forfeit.

In the Cowboy dual, Orres picked up an 11-7 decision over Rigo Bobadilla to improve to 7-1 on the season. Duckett pinned Kaeden Langfitt in 21 seconds.

“Ronnie started us out on a good note against a taller kid,” Carlson said. “In his second match, he cramped up and we asked if he wanted to continue and went out and got the job done. He showed a lot of grit.

“Ryan had a good night. He took his kid straight to his back. Noah had a solid match and competed to win a tight decision.”

The Cowboys beat Clear Lake 45-31 Earning wins for CG/D were Daniel Chavez (285), Bobadilla (106), Langfitt (113), Tyler Stein (120), Remington Hanson (138), Reed Abbas (145), Garrett Seaba (152) and Bryce Allen (160).

The Gaels are back in action on Saturday when they head to the Emmetsburg Invitational. The meet will begin at 10 a.m.
