Fort Dodge girls win big; boys edged

The Fort Dodge girls bowling team got back in the win column as the Dodgers competed against Southeast Polk on Thursday at Ridgewood Lanes.

The Dodger girls won, 2,624-2,107. The boys (0-3) were edged, 2,875-2,828.

Defending state champion Leah Sanck turned in the top performance with a 389. She rolled games of 229 and 160.

Alexis Kenney was next in line with a 374. She had games of 170 and 204.

Also competing for the Dodgers were Kat Flores (337), Paige Copenhaver (320), Lexi Hanson (302) and Aryssa Lumsden (283).

“The girls did a great job and raised their totals,” said Fort Dodge head coach Nick Vinson. “Leah has been bowling well and in every meet, a different girl has stepped up.

“Kat had a good night and Alexis (Kenney) had a good night as well.”

On the boys side, three bowlers reached the 400-plateau. Brady Graves had the high series with a 444. Graves had games of 220 and 224.

Carson Werning and Kaleb Anderson both rolled 405 series.

Werning had a 199 and 206, while Anderson had a 193 and 212.

David Folsom checked in with a 336. Mitchell Bolton (320) and Kyle Davis (298) also competed.

“We are getting closer (on the boys side),” Vinson said. “Brady, Kaleb and Carson have been steady all year long.

“(On Thursday), we just didn’t string enough strikes together.”

The Dodger boys junior varsity team won, 2,779-2,547. Jayden Ray bowled a 450, with games of 233 and 217.

The Dodger JV girls lost, 1,639-1,343. Ashleigh Starns had a 232 with games of 138 and 94.

The Dodgers bowl at West Des Moines Valley on Tuesday.
