Dodger boys win in the pool

CARROLL — The Fort Dodge boys swim team split with Carroll and Spencer in their season opener on Tuesday night.

The Dodgers beat Spencer 48-46 and lost to Carroll 74-20.

Fort Dodge had two runner up showings. Kevin O’Connor was second in the 500 freestyle in a time of 6:02.

“We have some freshmen and it was their first night out,” said Fort Dodge head coach Ashley Beaumont. “It was nice to see what they could do. I was very proud to see our relay come in second.

“The younger guys found a place to build from and now we can work on improving their times.”

The 400 freestyle relay team of Colby Doebel, Kyzer Stanley, O’Connor and Austin Jorgensen were second in the 400 freestyle relay.

O’Connor was third in the 200 freestyle (2:13.96) and Jorgensen was third in the 100 backstroke (1:10.04).

The quartet of Demetri Grantham, Stanley, Jake Miller and O’Connor were third in the 200 freestyle relay in a time of 1:57.54.

Fort Dodge will swim in its home opener on Thursday against Waukee.
