Tritons win opener

ESTHERVILLE — The Iowa Central wrestling team won seven matches, four by bonus points, on Wednesday night in their season opener.

The Tritons beat Iowa Lakes, 33-17. Iowa Central closed out the dual with six straight victories.

“We gave up some bonus points, but came firing back,” said Iowa Central head coach Luke Moffitt. “We had some guys step up and get bonus points, while winning the last six weights and took care of business to win the dual.”

Andrew Gamble earned a fall at 157 and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows graduate Reymundo Vasquez (165) earned a decision.

At 174 pounds, Ashton Eyler earned a fall, followed by a tech fall from Anthony Johnson (184).

Jaquez Bostic (197) and Boone McDermott (HWT) ended the match with decisions and a fall.

Jaxson Roney (133) picked up a decision victory.

The Tritons are back in action on Saturday at the Grand View Open.
