Titans rush for 304

MADRID — The sixth-ranked (Class 1A) South Central Calhoun football team used a strong second half to remain perfect here Friday, topping Madrid, 39-7.

The Titans scored 27 points over the final 24 minutes to improve to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the district.

Blake McAlister got South Central Calhoun on the board early in the first quarter, scoring from 25 yards out. McAlister had 85 yards rushing.

Brennan Holder made it 12-0 Titans with a 32-yard TD run in the second quarter and McAlister added another touchdown on a fourth-down run in the third.

Keagen Meyer got in on the scoring with another rushing TD in the third to go along with 85 yards rushing and T’Juan Sanders had the final touchdown, hitting paydirt from a yard out late in the fourth.

Landon Schleisman had 81 yards rushing. The Titans had 304 as a team and allowed 15 yards rushing on 31 carries.

Lynx survive scare vs. ‘Cats

HUMBOLDT — The Webster City football team survived here Friday night, posting a 27-21 victory over Humboldt.

Tyler Olson broke up a pass on fourth-down with just over a minute left, as the Lynx improved to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in district play.

Trey Mathis scored four rushing touchdowns, including one from 94 yards out. He finished with 27 carries for 306 yards, averaging over 11 yards per carry.

Mathis has 21 touchdown on the season.

Jamison Heinz led the Wildcats (1-6, 1-2) with two rushing scores, finishing with 122 yards on the ground.

Caden Matson also threw a touchdown pass to Levi Naeve.

Jacob Thurm intercepted a pass in the end zone for Humboldt and Matt Miller also had an interception.

No. 3 Algona cruises past E-LC

ESTHERVILLE — The third-ranked (Class 2A) Algona football team scored 27 first quarter points on their way to a 48-7 victory here Friday night over Estherville-LC.

Garrett Schmidt had two of his first touchdowns in the opening 12 minutes and Wyatt Wegener added another score.

Elliott Berkland recovered a blocked punt by Weston Shasteen for the fourth score of the opening quarter. Berkland also had an interception.

Sammonte Bawden hit paydirt to start the second and Schmidt scored for a third time near the end of the half. Jake Teague also added a rushing touchdown for the Bulldogs (7-0 overall, 3-0 in district).

Algona finished with 41 rushes for 261 yards, holding Estherville-LC to just 60 yards rushing and 129 yards of total offense.

Bawden ran for a team-high 85 yards on only eight carries, Wegener had 81 yards rushing and Schmidt added 76.

Cole Lewis picked off a pass on defense for the Bulldogs and Isaac Schonert was a perfect 6-for-6 on extra points.

Cougars fall 8-0 to Sioux Central

MANSON — Sioux Central improved to 3-0 in district play with an 8-0 victory over Manson Northwest Webster on Friday night.

Jacob Saunders, the nephew of MNW coach Jeff Anliker, threw his first touchdown pass of the season, connecting with Teagan Pritchard from 20 yards out.

The Cougar (1-6 overall, 0-3 district) held Sioux Central (5-2, 3-0) to 167 yards rushing and 58 through the air.

Brayden Johll led the Cougars on the ground with 80 yards on 21 carries.

Austin Anliker was 9-for-18 passing for 87 yards.

Southeast Valley drops tight 3-0 home contest

GOWRIE — Southeast Valley couldn’t find the end zone for the second straight week, as they dropped a 3-0 contest to Garner-Hayfield/Ventura on Friday night.

It was the second straight victory for the Cardinals (4-3 overall, 2-1 district). Landon Dalbeck had the lone points of the game, kicking a 27-yard field goal.

The Jaguars (4-3, 1-2) had 131 yards of total offense, while the Cardinals had 162.

N-F loses 33-0 at home

NEWELL — Newell-Fonda couldn’t find an answer for eighth-ranked Harris-Lake Park on Friday night, dropping a 33-0 contest.

Trey Jungers led the Mustangs (5-2 overall, 3-1 district) with 76 yards on 19 carries. He was 4-for-8 passing for 47 yards. He also had 12 tackles.
