Dodgers move up in 4A

Fresh off their 42-7 victory over Ames this past Friday night, the Fort Dodge football team finds itself seventh in Class 4A.

The Dodgers (2-0 overall) climbed one spot after being tied for eighth a week ago. Fort Dodge hosts Indianola Friday night for Homecoming, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. from Dodger Stadium.

On the season, FDSH has outscored Mason City and Ames a combined 107-7. Asle Thorson has thrown for 459 yards and six touchdowns, adding another 107 yards and three scores on the ground.

Dayson Clayton, who went for 164 yards rushing, 80 yards receiving and three touchdowns vs. the Little Cyclones, has 276 total yards from scrimmage. Tyler Schreier and Tysen Kershaw have a combined 18 receptions for 260 yards with four scores.

The Dodger defense has forced six turnovers, with Tyler Nichols and Sam Daniel leading the way at 12.5 and 11.5 tackles, respectively.

No. 3 (2A) Algona (2-0) welcomes Emmetsburg for Homecoming after posting 61 and 50 points the first two weeks. Wyatt Wegener has touched the ball 22 times on offense, generating 522 yards and eight touchdowns.

Tyler Manske is completing almost 67 percent of his passes for 419 yards with five touchdowns, and both Sammonte Bawden and Garrett Schmidt have over 100 yards on the ground.

Sixth-ranked (1A) South Central Calhoun has allowed just six points in two games, besting East Sac County and Carroll Kuemper. Seven different Titan players have scored touchdowns this season.

Up next for the Titans (2-0) will be IKM-Manning at home.

Southeast Valley, who hosts Belmond-Klemme this week, is just outside the rankings at No. 11 in 2A.

West Des Moines Valley replaced West Des Moines Dowling at the top spot in 4A after besting the six-time defending state champions last week. Other No. 1s include Western Dubuque (3A), Waukon (2A), West Sioux (1A), West Hancock (A) and Don Bosco (8-man)
