Webster City came away the St. Edmond Invitational title on Saturday, finishing the volleyball tournament 5-0.

Host St. Edmond (2-5 overall) knocked off Pocahontas Area 21-11 and 21-16. They also lost to Aplington-Parkersburg.

They won the first set 21-13, but fell 21-18 and 16-15. They suffered a 21-11 and 21-13 lost to Southeast Valley. The Gaels won the second set 21-16, but suffered 21-6 and 15-10 defeats.

“It was a great tournament with several evenly matched teams flip flopping wins and losses throughout the day,” said St. Edmond head coach Dee Huss. “We are just working on the little things and trying to find a higher level of consistency on every touch. I thought our energy was pretty good though.

“We still played a little out of sync, especially at the start of the day. We need to stay up and focus on all the times when they’re clicking.”

The Lynx beat Aplington-Parkersburg 21-16, 21-13; Southeast Valley 21-13, 21-11; St. Edmond 21-16, 21-11; Pocahontas Area 21-16, 21-12 and Bishop Garrigan 21-15 and 21-12.

Pocahontas Area was 3-2 on the day and Southeast Valley won two matches.

Kiersten Fisher had 26 kills for the Jaguars, while Jenna Flore and Delaney Conrad had 22 kills each and Emily Jaeschke had 72 assists.

Josie Huss led the Gaels with 29 kills and 24 digs. She was 29-for-32 serving with six aces and six blocks.

Leah Neverman had 15 kills and six digs. She was 25-for-28 serving with three aces and 14 blocks. Kacey Kruthoff had nine kills and 11 blocks. Kierstin Clark had 35 assists and Milena Naughton was 28 of 29 serving with 25 assits.

“Our block just kept getting better and better throughout the day, along with our pass, so we could get the middle hitter more involved in the offense,” Hus said. “Leah and Kacey really stepped it up at the net.

“It’s still pretty early in the season, so we have to stay focused and come back next week ready to practice with a purpose.”
