Record scores are impressive across the board

The Fort Dodge Ford Lincoln Toyota Webster County golf tournament scoring records aren’t set in stone, but the low numbers will be difficult for anyone to beat in the future.

In 2010, Fort Dodge Senior High graduate Kevin Ault carded a nine-under par 62 at the Fort Dodge Country Club, a three-under 69 at Lakeside, and a two-under 34 in the championship round for a 14-under par 165 total. That bested his own men’s open division record by a single stroke, established the year before in 2009.

Stacey Bergman’s record of three-over par 146 is now 22 years old on the women’s side (75 at the FDCC, 71 at Lakeside). Stef Nelson tied the mark in 2004 with a 146 (72 at Lakeside, 74 at the FDCC), but no one has been able to top it since.

The senior men’s division record is held by both Terry Miller (2013) and Dean Underberg (2014), who both carded 45-hole totals of 176.

Kathy Fortune’s 155 in 2015 is the standard in the women’s senior history books.

On-line registration for the July 13 and 14 tournament, sponsored by The Messenger, is set up for all tournament participants this year at https://fdcc-2019citytournament1.golfgenius.com. Click on the “Register Now For 2019 City Tournament” tab on the bottom left-hand side of the page.

The men’s open and senior division fields are asked to visit Lakeside (515-576-6741) with questions, concerns or if help is needed signing up. The women should go to the Country Club (955-8551).

All Webster County residents and workers are eligible to participate in the event, which has attracted nearly 8,000 golfers since The Messenger obtained sponsorship in 1980.
