Lynx roll past Gaels, 15-1

The Webster City baseball team tightened their hold atop the North Central Conference with a 15-1 victory in six innings over St. Edmond here Monday night at Rogers Park.

Tyler Olson improved to 7-1 with a 10-strikeout performance as the Lynx plated 12 runs in the final two innings.

Dylan Steen had three hits, drove in three runs and scored twice, and eighth-grader CJ Hisler collected three hits with an RBI and a run for Webster City (15-7 overall, 8-1 in NCC).

Leading 3-0 heading to the top of the fifth, the Lynx scored six runs, batting around as Steen had two hits in the frame.

“That’s a really good (Class) 3A team with a really good pitcher,” SEHS head coach Mike Szalat said. “We knew it was going to be a challenge coming in, but I felt like we were playing really good baseball last week and was hoping that would carry over.”

For the Gaels (6-10, 3-8), Jack McEvoy, Gage Johnson and Jed Tracy each had a hit. McEvoy has reached in 15 of the 16 games this year, including 12 with a hit.

“When you are going up against a strikeout pitcher, you just have to find different ways to get on base,” Szalat said. “Jed did that with his bunt in the third. We just need to do more of that.”

Tyler Olson had two hits and drove in a run, as Caleb Olson, Sean Carver and Ty McKinney each had two hits. Carver had two RBI on the night.

Steen has 11 hits over his last five games and Caleb Olson has reached in 17 of his last 18.

Cael Kolacia went four-plus innings for St. Edmond, striking out five with just one walk. Jackson Kochendorfer scored the lone Gael run.

Next action for St. Edmond will be back here on Tuesday night when they host Southeast Valley. Webster City hosts Clarion-Goldfield/Dows Wednesday night.
