Burkholder named Triton track coach
Jordan Burkholder was recently named the new head track and field coach at Iowa Central.
Burkholder has spent the past three seasons leading the Triton throwers into action. He replaces Nigel Bigbee, who helped Iowa Central claim the indoor NJCAA national title this past year.
“We couldn’t be luckier to promote from within and put Jordan in the driver’s seat of our teams,” said Iowa Central director of track and field and cross country, Dee Brown. “Jordan understands our culture and tradition here. He knows our athletes and is the best fit for this position.”
Burkholder follows in the footsteps of Bigbee, Brown and the late Denny Myers, becoming the fourth head coach in the 16-year history of the program.
In his three seasons with Iowa Central, Burkholder has been named the USTFCCCA Midwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year for either men or women three different times. He coached two national champions, 24 All-Americans, 20 NJCAA Region XI champions and a total of 46 national qualifiers during that time in just throwing events.
A graduate of Loras College, Burkholder also spent two seasons coaching at Siena Heights University where he earned his master’s degree. He coached one national champion, 12 All-Americans, 36 national qualifiers and 33 all-conference performers at Siena Heights.
