St. Edmond edges Cadets

IOWA FALLS — The St. Edmond baseball team claimed a 5-4 victory over Iowa Falls-Alden here Wednesday night.

The Gaels scored two insurance runs in the seventh to hold off the Cadets, who made it a one-run game and had two runners on.

St. Edmond plated a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to overcome an early 2-0 deficit. In the seventh, Charlie Shelly and Connor Bocken scored runs.

Cael Kolacia picked up the win on the mound, striking out 13 batters. He allowed just six hits and walked three on the night, throwing 77 of his 111 pitches for strikes.

Peyton Scott earned the save.

Noah Carlson reached base three times on the night. Jack McEvoy, Bocken, Litwiller, Kolacia and Gage Johnson were all on base twice each.

Kolacia had a pair of doubles and Bocken had two hits. Jackson Kochendorfer had a suicide bunt to tie the game at 2-all.

“We did a great job of cleaning up our defense,” SEHS head coach Mike Szalat said. “Cael had a big night, as did Connor, and Jackson’s play was huge.”

St. Edmond’s defense ended the game after catching the tying runner between third base and home.

“A batter hit a double with the bases loaded and the guy on first over ran third,” Szalat said. “We got him in a situation and made one throw to end the game.”

The Gaels welcome Pocahontas Area for a 7:30 p.m. game at Rogers Park Thursday night.
