No. 1 Johnston sweeps FD baseball squad

JOHNSTON — The Fort Dodge baseball team couldn’t find a way to slow down No. 1 Johnston on Wednesday night.

The Dodgers (4-6 overall) lost 8-0 in the opener and 12-1 in five innings to the Dragons (12-0).

Johnston’s Jacob Draeger tossed a no-hitter in the first contest. The Dragons got on the board early, scoring seven runs in the second inning.

In the 12-1 setback, Drake Miller had a double for FDSH and Mason Bockoven hit a solo home run.

“Johnston is a really quality ballclub,” said Fort Dodge head coach Blake Utley. “They have a lot of experience (23 seniors and juniors combined), and have a really good approach at the plate. They can hit the fastball and their lineup is balanced.

“To beat an opponent like that, you have to hit the ball extremely well and match them at the plate.”

The Dodgers are back in action on Friday when they travel to Sioux City North.
