Mistakes cost St. Edmond at Webster City

WEBSTER CITY — The Webster City baseball team used a seven-run first inning to topple St. Edmond 11-1 on Wednesday night.

Both squads had four hits, but eight errors by the Gaels (2-3 overall, 0-2 North Central Conference) led to 11 unearned Lynx runs.

Dylan Steen earned the win for the Lynx (5-3, 2-0) on the mound. Ty McKinney had triple.

Noah Carlson led the Gaels at the plate with two hits.

“We just had a lot of defensive miscues,” said St. Edmond head coach Mike Szalat. “When you give up that many unearned runs against an all-conference pitcher, it’s going to be a long night.

“A lot of the mistakes are correctable. I’m not mad, but the kids should be disappointed. Physical mistakes happen, but you just can’t make eight of them.”

The Gaels will play their first home game of the season on Monday when they host Hampton-Dumont.
