Gypsum Miners get on the board

STORM LAKE — The Fort Dodge Gypsum Miners picked up their first-ever victory on Tuesday, routing the Storm Lake Whitecaps, 17-2.

Iowa Central’s Peyton Krugler had three hits for Fort Dodge (1-2 overall), which plated two runs in the first inning and seven more in the second to break the game wide open. Jamie Young homered, doubled and scored four times.

Sam Kimmorley singled, doubled and homered. Americo Louis also came home four times.

Houston Hawkins earned the victory working five innings and striking out seven. Hawkins allowed only one earned run.

The Gypsum Miners are back in action on Friday against the Bancroft Bandits at Patterson Field.

First pitch in the game is set for 5 p.m.
