Gaels rout C-G/D
CLARION — The St. Edmond softball team caught fire here Wednesday night in the fifth inning, scoring 14 runs on their way to a 16-1 victory over Clarion-Goldfield/Dows.
Erin Flattery went 4-for-4 with a triple, double, four RBI and three runs scored, while both Rylee Kinney and Jocy Timmerman collected three hits each.
“We just got going and did a great job of staying patient and hitting the ball to the right side of second base,” SEHS head coach Nick Clark said. “We let a few at-bats get away from us, but there in the fifth, we put it together.”
Kinney also scored three times and drove in two more runs, with Timmerman scoring twice and plating two.
Jacque Oberg had two hits, two RBI and scored twice, Cambrie McBride scored twice, Ella Vratny had two hits and drove in a run, and Devyn Scott had a pair of RBI.
Macey Mason finished with two RBI and stole two bases.
“We were in a rhythm there in the fifth,” Clark said. “We looked really good at the plate and made a lot of things happen. Up-and-down the lineup we did a great job, especially that top-half.”
The Gaels return to action Thursday when they host North Union.
St. Edmond won the junior varsity contest, 9-8, as Alyson Nieland was 3-for-4 with a double.
It was announced on Wednesday that St. Edmond will open Class 1A regional play on Monday, July 8 when they host Riceville. The winner advances to meet AGWSR.
