CLEAR LAKE — A five-run fourth ended any hopes of a road win for the St. Edmond softball team here Wednesday, as the Gaels fell to Clear Lake, 9-2.

The Lions jumped out to an early 3-1 lead before plating five runs in the fourth.

“They had a two-out rally for the first three runs of the game,” SEHS head coach Nick Clark said. “We stranded runners every inning and just didn’t execute enough.”

Rylee Kinney was 3-for-4 and drove in a run, with Jacque Oberg adding two hits and an RBI. Gracie Harvey also had two hits on the night for the Gaels.

“You just can’t leave runners on base, especially on the road,” Clark said. “We hit the ball hard, but we hit it right at them. They found the gaps and that was the biggest difference.”

St. Edmond returns to action Thursday when they host another North Central Conference rival in Clarion-Goldfield/Dows at Rogers Park at 7:30 p.m.

In the junior varsity contest, Clear Lake won, 13-8. Elly Berry had a two-run double for the Gaels.
