Dodgers coast at Boone

BOONE — A five-run third inning helped the Fort Dodge baseball team pick up a 9-1 victory over Boone here Friday night.

Shane Halligan and Dylan Zimmermann each had two hits, with Halligan driving in three runs and scoring twice from the leadoff spot.

Drew Callon, Drake Miller, Mason Bockoven, Brycen Bell and Anthony Wagner all drove in a run each. Bockoven drew two walks and also had a single.

Callon and Zimmermann each had a double for the Dodgers (4-2 overall).

“Shane had a really nice night at the plate, as did Dylan and Mason,” FDSH head coach Blake Utley said. “We just need to put the ball in play more.

“And our defense was outstanding. Carson Peterson had some nice plays at third, Bockoven turned a double play and Nick Bice had an assist from the outfield that kept a run off the board.”

Zimmermann got the start, pitching the first four innings with two strikeouts and just five hits allowed. Callon and Miller combined for three strikeouts over two innings of work.

“Dylan pitched really well,” Utley said. “He got through four and with his pitch-count, we wanted to keep him for next week.

“We pieced it together after that and the guys that came in really did a great job.”

Boone is now 3-3.

Fort Dodge returns to action on Monday when they host Waukee at Ed McNeil Field beginning at 5 p.m.
