N-F boys join state golf field

The Newell-Fonda boys golf team advanced to the state tournament after finishing as runner up in a Class 1A district meet at Lakeside on Thursday.

Newell-Fonda’s Hogan Henrich was the meet runner up as well.

Harris-Lake Park shot a 324 to win the district meet and Graettinger-Terril’s Tyson Kruse (74) was the individual champion.

Newell-Fonda’s Bryce Coppock shot an 80 to tie for fifth in the individual standings and North Union’s Hayden Nicoson (80) was also fifth.

“I thought we competed very well, it wasn’t an easy day, hot and windy, and Lakeside always is a tough course to navigate,” said Newell-Fonda head coach Nathan Baron. “I thought we did a good job of staying the course and kept grinding through the meet.

“I am very excited for these guys, they have been awesome to work with all year.”

Also competing for the Mustangs were RJ Rojas (89), Izak Baron (90), Jake Demey (93) and Damon Bartek (100).

“What a great day,” Baron said. “I could not be more proud of the kids. “They played great. Hogan and Bryce gave us two great rounds to carry us. A 76 out of Hogan and an 80 out of Bryce are just what we needed.”

Competing for North Union was Parker Eichenberger (92), Gage Madden (98), Carter Anderson (112), Jacob Burt (113) and Michael Hanson (113).

St. Edmond sophomore Cole Rautanen shot a 104.
