Gibb second for Gaels at South Hamilton

JEWELL — The St. Edmond boys golf team overcame tough conditions to top South Hamilton and Saydel here Monday in a triangular.

The Gaels finished with a 186, six strokes ahead of South Hamilton. Saydel placed third with a 201.

Andrew Gibb was runner-up after carding a 43, with Drew Schaeffer following with a 44. Korbin Brown had a 47, Peyton Scott a 52, Cole Rautanen a 53 and Preston Derrig a 65 for St. Edmond.

“I’m just really proud of the guys,” SEHS head coach Dan Streit said. “It was rainy, cold and windy for about the first five holes, but they battled out there. This was a good win for us.”

The Gaels also claimed the junior varsity triangular with a 210 as Devon Wirtz shot a 46.

St. Edmond hosts Humboldt and Iowa Falls-Alden on Thursday at Lakeside Golf Course, with Algona set for dual action on Friday.
