Gaels lose to Cougars on the road

MANSON –The St. Edmond girls put together a strong fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough to knock off Manson Northwest Webster on Thursday night.

The Cougars (4-7 overall) held on for a 52-46 victory over the Gaels (2-9).

“Defensively we were kind of inconsistant,” said St. Edmond head coach Steve Neuberger. “We really got after them in the fourth quarter and got back into the game. We just kind of a dug a hole early in the third quarter.

“We saw some positive things. It’s the same story, we were playing hard, but just couldn’t get over the hump.”

St. Edmond trailed 31-22 heading into the fourth quarter, but outscored Manson Northwest Webster 19-10 in the final eight minutes.

Bailey Kenyon led the way for the Cougars, scoring 12 points, while Chloe Troshynski added nine.

Macey Mason had a season-high 11 points to lead three Gael players in double figures. Jacque Oberg and Cambrie McBride had 10 points each.

“Macey only had three in the first quarter, but offensively got it going in the second half,” Neuberger said. “She was being aggressive and attacking the basket.

“She was playing hard and I was happy to see her put some points on the board.”

The Gaels are back in action tonight as they travel to Iowa Falls-Alden for a 6:15 p.m. tip in a girl/boy doubheader.
