Gael boys can’t stop Lions

CLEAR LAKE — The St. Edmond boys dropped their third straight game here Friday night, falling to No. 5 (Class 3A) Clear Lake, 74-52.

Andrew Gibb led the Gaels with 26 points, with 15 of them coming in the first half.

The Lions, though, jumped out to a 40-28 lead after the first 16 minutes and never looked back.

“Clear Lake has a real nice team and they did a great job on defense forcing us to take bad shots,” SEHS head coach Adolph Kochendorfer said. “They were stronger and more athletic.”

Jerris Duncan added six, with both Sean Newell and Jackson Kochendorfer scoring four for St. Edmond. Gibb had six rebounds, Kochendorfer five and Mitchell Rasmussen four.

For the Lions, Tate Storbeck and Drew Enke each had 14, with Jared Penning adding 12 and Jaylen DeVries 11.

St. Edmond has a quick turnaround, playing its second consecutive ranked opponent Saturday night at home vs. No. 5 (2A) South Hamilton. The Hawks had their 33-game regular season win streak snapped in a 70-65 loss to sixth-ranked (3A) Gilbert last night.
