Indianola pulls away from FD boys

INDIANOLA — The Fort Dodge boys were hit by a cold shooting spell here Monday night, dropping their season opener to Indianola, 69-45.

Jordan Jackson scored 15 and Malihk Lockman added 11, but the Dodgers were scoreless over the final four minutes and had just four points in the last seven minutes down the stretch as a relatively close game turned into a rout.

“We just struggled to score and didn’t shoot the ball well,” FDSH head coach Tom Daniel said. “Their screen-and-roll game really gave us problems. They broke us down and made shots from the outside.”

Tyce Johnson scored a game-high 21 for the Indians, with University of Northern Iowa commit Evan Gauger and Quinn Vesey each adding 19.

“Gauger is a legitimate college guard,” Daniel said. “He made it hard on us to defend and when we tried to help, he kicked it out to shooters that made shots.

“Indianola was the better team.”

Fort Dodge will make its home debut Tuesday night, hosting Des Moines Lincoln at 7:45 p.m.

The Railsplitters have yet to play this season and are coming off a five-win campaign from a year ago. They return three starters in seniors Felix Gallagher, Ben Knoebel and Josiah Conkrite.
