Garrigan rallies past SE boys

ALGONA — The Bishop Garrigan boys used their size to post a 62-50 victory over St. Edmond here Monday night in the season opener for both.

TJ Schnurr scored 25 points, Angelo Winkel added 16 as the Golden Bears rallied from a 34-26 halftime deficit.

“We shot the ball pretty well in the first half,” SEHS head coach Adolph Kochendorfer said. “Their size wore us down over the course of the game and they took advantage of some little things that we can definitely improve upon.”

Drew Schaeffer led St. Edmond with 16 points, while Andrew Gibb added 13 and Jackson Kochendorfer chipped in 11.

Schnurr and Winkel each had 12 rebounds, with John Joyce dishing out nine assists.

“St. Edmond executed better and played harder in the first half than we did,” BGHS head coach Harry Condoleon said. “I challenged our guys to play harder on the defensive end in the second half and they responded well. We ran the floor better, also.”
