Big night for Triton swimmers

SIOUX CITY — The Iowa Central men’s and women’s swim teams dominated in action here on Friday night during a quadrangular on the campus of Morningside College.

The Triton women (116.5 points) defeated Morningside (33), Nebraska-Kearney (32.5) and Barton (23). The Iowa Central men (133) topped Morningside (49) and Barton (21). Both ICCC squads captured first place individually in every event.

The women’s 400 medley relay of Maria Diaz, Emilie Andrin, Ashleigh Beacham and Mary Marshall broke a pool record with a time of 4:17.45. Eve Berg was a double winner in the 100 backstroke (1:03.46) and 1000 freestyle (11:10.20).

Andrin also took the 200 individual medley (2:17.53) and the 100 breaststroke (1:08.70). Diaz doubled up in the 200 freestyle (2:01.51) and 100 freestyle (57.05).

On the men’s side, Marcelo Busch shattered both a pool and his own school record in the 1000 freestyle (9:43.35). The 400 freestyle relay quartet of Juan Hayman, Caleb Gaylor, Emile Lutzeler and Busch swam a 3:14.84, which marked the third consecutive year the Tritons set a pool record in the event.

The Iowa Central men placed 1-2-3 in the 100 breaststroke, 200 individual medley and 500 freestyle. Busch took the 500 with a pool-record time of 4:42.99.

Lutzeler was first in both the 50 free (21.77) and 100 breaststroke (1:00.05), and Gaylor earned titles in the 100 free (49.03) and 200 free (1:48.63).

The Tritons return to action here on Saturday in the Mustang Invitational, beginning at noon.
