Clean sweep for Dodgers
FD girls swim squad dominates in victory at Perry
PERRY — The Fort Dodge girls swim team dominated from start to finish against Perry here on Thursday, winning every event in a 128-30 victory.
The Dodgers had three double winners. Grace Hartley took the 100 breaststroke (1:17.40) and the 100 freestyle (58.02). Luanne Xiao was the 200 individual medley winner (2:20.20) and the 100 butterfly champ (1:07.16). Madigan Peimann prevailed in the 100 backstroke (1:04.66) and the 50 freestyle (26.92).
Elora Fierke was the 500 freestyle winner (5:45.58). Rylie Steinkamp was first in the 200 freestyle (2:11.77).
“We had a lot of girls step up for this meet,” FDSH head coach Ashley Beaumont said. “Perry doesn’t have a lot of girls on their team, so our girls chose their events.”
Fort Dodge also swept the relays. The 400 freestyle quartet of Peimann, Border, Steinkamp and Fierke won in 4:15.57. The 200 free relay of Hartley, Xiao, Border and Steinkamp took first in 1:50.87.
The 200 medley relay of Peimann, Fierke, Xiao and Hartley crossed in 2:01.92 to capture gold.
“Rylie had a personal best (in the 200 free), and Claire Kienzle had a great 200 IM (second in 2:50.21). Emma Johnson came in second to Grace in the 100 breast.
“This was a great way to move into some more challenging meets, with Southeast Polk and Valley coming up soon.”
The Dodgers host the Rams on Tuesday.
