600 FOR ADAMS

MASON CITY — Andi Adams became just the 64th softball coach in Iowa high school history to win her 600th game as Fort Dodge swept a doubleheader from Mason City here on Wednesday.

The 15th-ranked Dodgers improved to 12-2 on the year with a pair of victories over the Mohawks, 6-1 and 10-0.

Adams improved to 600-289 overall in her coaching career, which spans 21 seasons. She had previous stops at St. Edmond and Eldora-New Providence before arriving at FDSH, where she is now 547-256 since 2001.

“You don’t think about getting 600 wins in your career when you start out,” Adams said. “For one, it’s hard enough to even make it to 600 games. But I wouldn’t want to do it anywhere else, and I wouldn’t want to reach (600) with any other team. This group is a lot of fun. I’m proud to be their coach.”

Just last week, Adams passed Hall of Fame baseball legend Ed McNeil as the all-time wins leader in Dodger athletic history.

Adams has taken eight different FDSH softball squads to the state tournament, including five in a row from 2002 through 2006.

Adams won her 500th game in 2014.
