Fort Dodge girls fall to Ankeny, 7-4

ANKENY — The Fort Dodge girls tennis team dropped a 7-4 decision to Ankeny here Tuesday.

Beth Murman and Kathryn Cochrane each had singles victories for the Dodgers, with the two also pairing up for a win in doubles. The other victory for FDSH came from the doubles team of Emma Bloom and Brooke Erickson.

After dropping the first set to Marie Beecham and Katelyn North at No. 2 doubles, 6-1, Bloom and Erickson rebounded with a 6-4 victory. They claimed the match with an 11-9 win in the super-tiebreaker for their first varsity doubles win together.

“That was just a big, big moment for Emma and Brooke,” FDSH head coach Martha Mericle said. “They came out slow, but we talked them through some adjustments and they made them on the court. It was so great to see their excitement when they pulled out the win.

“Now they believe they can win at this level.”

The Dodgers return to action on Thursday when they host Urbandale at 3 p.m.
