Dodger boys win Mohawk Relays title

Freshman Schreier doubles up; FDSH boys take six golds in all

MASON CITY — The Fort Dodge boys track team came away with the Mohawk Relays championship on Monday in Mason City.

The Dodgers won six events and outscored Mason City, Waterloo East and Waterloo West.

“It’s not a huge meet (in terms of number of schools), but it was a chance to run against teams more our size,” said FDSH head coach John McBride. “The kids were excited and got pumped up about winning.

“Any time you win, it’s a big deal.”

Freshman Tyler Schreier captured two individual events for the Dodgers, and was also on two championship relays. Schreier won the 100 in 11.56, and the 200 in 23.21.

“Tyler looked really good,” McBride said. “He anchored the sprint medley and led the 4×100.

“He was also strong in both the 100 and 200.”

Schreier off the winning 4×100 — with teammates Lucas Jacobson, Brycen Bell and Trey Mosley — that finished in 44.45. Schreier was the anchor in the golden sprint medley of Jacobson, Bell and Mosley, which crossed in 1:38.20.

Bell and Jacobson added their third relay title of the evening in the 4×200 (1:35.92) with Dayson Clayton and Drew Zimmerman.

The shuttle hurdle relay team of Trey Kasperbauer, Anthony Wagner, Asle Thorson and Lucas Williamson finished in first with a time of 1:02.09.

Eric Crawford was second in the 3200 (11:38) and third in the 1600 (5:15.38).

Kasperbauer (16.16) and Anthony Wagner (16.97) went second and third in the 110 hurdles, respectively.

The 4×400 relay quartet of Riley Crimmins, Dylan Bethke, Jeremiah Hughes and Jordan Martin were second in 3:48.28.

The 4×800 quartet of Austin Lee, Russell Potratz, Jerry Chada and Martin were second in 9;14.49.

Clayton, Aidan Simonson, Crimmins and Nolan Daniel were third in the distance medley (4:25.35).

Potratz (2:20.15 in 800) and Thorson (1:01 in 400 hurdles) were third.

Fort Dodge won the Des Moines Hoover Invitational in each of the last two seasons, and earned the Mohawk Relays title here in 2015.

The Dodgers will run the 4×100 relay on Friday at Drake. They will host the Dodger Relays on Monday.
